Hearing Aid Expections

  • Accept that your hearing loss is permanent, unless you have been told otherwise.
  • Understand that hearing aids will never "cure" your hearing problem and will never make you hear "normal".  While hearing aids will improve hearing, it is important that people with hearing loss not expect to hear perfect.
  •  How well a hearing aid improves hearing depends greatly on the degree of hearing loss, pattern of hearing loss and reasonable expectations.
  • People with hearing loss forgot that years ago when they had good hearing, they still had trouble hearing clear at noisy gathering such as weddings and similar events. If people with good hearing are having trouble hearing in a particular listening situation, then people with hearing loss and hearing aids will also have trouble hearing well in that situation.

This information is intended to help people with hearing loss and hearing aids understand the benefits of hearing aids as well as "reasonable" expections.
